Our story

Welcome to the Swim22 page for the Stem Cells for Diabetes Swim Team from the Centre for Gene Therapy and Regenerative Medicine at King’s College London, joined by fantastic colleagues at the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences and collaborators from Imperial College London!

Every two minutes someone in the United Kingdom is diagnosed with diabetes, and around 5 million people are currently living with the condition. It is a powerful reminder of why better treatments are urgently needed.

Our team brings together researchers, principal investigators, professional services colleagues, friends of the centre, and collaborators from Imperial College London, all united by a shared interest in supporting diabetes research.

Many of us work on stem cell approaches to generate insulin producing beta cells, with the goal of developing new therapies for diabetes. Others support the work that makes this research possible.

Together, we have swapped the lab, the office, and the meeting room for the swimming pool to take on the Swim22 challenge for Diabetes UK.

Some of us glide through the water, others are simply determined not to sink, but all of us are swimming towards the same goal, supporting research that can change the future of diabetes treatment.

If you would like to cheer us on, and perhaps motivate a few extra lengths, please consider donating through the profile page and supporting one of the team members.

Every contribution makes a real difference!
