My Story

I’m taking part in the Swim22 Challenge to support people affected by diabetes. My goal is to do is twice (44miles) and maybe this is part of the training for the real thing. At least there wont be tankers, boats, jellyfish and the goose fat to contend with. There are 4.7 million people living with diabetes in the UK, the complications of which lead to over 500 premature deaths every week. So, I’m swimming towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes. Support my challenge by hitting the donate button on my profile page.

9 miles in the bag...i think i underestimated how hard this is... its not the swimming but the time commitment. People say just think how healthy you will be. I am actually putting on weight and eating my bodyweight in food after a swim !

4.5 miles down..just 39.5 miles to go....why does swimming make you sooooooo hungry...?

Awh thanks ever so much Andrea.. much appreciated. I know our minds are focussed elsewhere at the moment with the crisis and feel guilty really posting on this.. but need to keep high spirited, find ways of keeping well and add a bit of humour where we can. Keep Safe. Love to you both x

Awh thanks Karen. That is very generous of you. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone at the council x I am up to 17.5 miles just 4.5 miles to go to get to France and then I have to start heading back to complete the 44 miles. Will be lucky if I get to France as I think the pools will close soon. Take care and hope all is ok with you and the Team x

Well... i will not be beaten. Bought a 10ft paddling pool, dug out my wet suit attached a bum bag and tied myself to the post with a flexi hose pipe so I can swim in one position. I can now continue the challenge ... cold though it maybe. The cost of this is no more than a decent Exercise bike. I am hoping to hit the coast of France tomorrow then a long haul back of 22 miles (will take me alot longer!) Its my own man made infinity pool. People may think i am mad - well so do i but i just need to be in the water.. helps physically and mentally. Hope everyone keeping safe x

Had the pool to myself... an elderley gentleman said to me "Your not swimming the channel are you?" - my reply actually was "yes i am TWICE"... the shock on his face! Lovely gentleman and very supportive .
